In a resounding 2 game sweep of the Philadelphia Jackals, the Trenton Habs, have advanced to the finals of the IJHL's Mid-
Atlantic division.

Friday's game was a tough end to end battle, that saw the Habs build a 4-0 lead.  The Jackals capitalized off a strong 2nd period
surge, but it wasn't enough, as the home team pulled off the 7-4 victory.  Saturday afternoon was a far more physical affair...
until 4 unanswered goals in the late 2nd and early 3rd period catapulted the Habs to a 10-5 victory and 2 game sweep.

The Habs will travel up to Syracuse this weekend to meet the regular season champion Stampede, in what should be an
extremely competitive 3 game series.  With a solid week of training, and attention to detail, the Habs should be more than ready
for their northern New York state foes.

Habs embrace new technology to improve goaltender performance!

Habs goaltender Coach John Zdunkiewicz has always embraced new
technology and statistical analysis to improve the performance of the
goaltenders he trains. Recently he has been implementing the new
GDS iSOG HD Goalie Stats Utility for his iPad and using it while
evaluating the goaltenders for the Trenton Habs organization.
The utility offers, "detailed ice hockey goalie stats for up to
15 goalies, providing shots on goal, where saves were made,
where goals were scored, and types of goals. Left & right hand
goalie configuration. Emailed reports and Facebook publishing
for tracking and analysis including in-game mode with real
time game clock."  The applications statistical approach,
drills down into the problems a goalie coach or evaluator may be seeing and highlights problem areas, then spells out the
issues using color-coded charts and graphs with the student.  When combined with the one on one training of a professional
goaltender coach, "It leaves no stone unturned," said Coach Zdunkiewicz.

The analysis is a small part of the overall defensive approach of the Habs.  On the season, the Habs have allowed only 55 goals
against in 32 games played.  This places them at the top of the IJHL in goals against average.  In addition, 1991- birth year
netminder and Halifax native, Mark Burton, was selected as a league All- Star in January.

* Coach "Zdunk" is a former Niagara Universtiy D1 goaltender who later enjoyed a professional career backing up for the
Trenton Devils in the ECHL and then later starting for the Valley Forge Freedom of the MAHL.

Congratulations to Mark Burton,

The Trenton Habs Junior Hockey
Team Player of the Week for January 14th, 2012!

The Cape Cod Showcase was quite a weekend for
the Trenton Habs, and 1991- birth year goaltender
Mark Burton. The 6'3" 185lbs. Halifax, Nova Scotia
native was not only selected to participate in the
IJHL league all-star game, but he was the defensive
backbone of the Habs weekend sweep of their
New England division foes.  Going 3-0, Burton's
timely saves continually frustrated the opposition
and gave new life to his "Capital City" teammates.
On the season, Burton's steady showing has placed
him in the top tier of IJHL league goaltenders in
minutes played, wins, and a 2.75 GAA.

The Trenton Habs return home this weekend for a 11:30am matchup against division rival the New York Jr. Aviators on Sunday.
Trenton looks to continue their forward progress all the way to the playoffs!  Congratulations Mark... and GO HABS!

Habs Gearing Up for Cape Cod Showcase

This weekend the Trenton Habs will be taking to the
road for the highly anticipated "Cape Cod Showcase".
The annual IJHL event takes place the weekend of
January 14 and will feature the All-Star game, of
which Coach Armagan is participating, and
10+ teams playing 20+ games.

Hosting the action, the Hyannis Youth and
Community Center is a state of the art rink in the
town of Barnstable, Massachusetts, about an hour
drive south from Boston.  It consists of two rinks,
one being named after the late Joseph P. Kennedy Jr.,                                                            #12 Anthony LoBianco
who was killed when his B-24 Liberator exploded during
a WWII bombing mission. The smaller capacity rink is
named after a Barnstable philanthropist, Patrick Butler,
who died in 2009.  The rink serves as home ice for the
Cape Cod Islanders, back to back IJHL champions.

The Habs will be facing off against several of the top teams in the New Englans division including the Eastern Kodiaks and Boston
Jr. Blackhawks.  It is sure to be scouted by several top ACHA and NCAA college programs.

With a solid week of training, the Habs will need to be running on all cylinders come Friday... Go HABS!

IJHL has selected on the ALL STAR GAME from the HABS:  Forward Anthony LoBianco, Forward James Kelly, Defenseman Chris
Watkins, Goalie Mark Burton.

December 20th 2011

Congratulations to Peter Twining, the Trenton Habs Jr. Hockey team's
player of the week for the weekend of December 18, 2011!   The 6'0"
Forward from Princeton, NJ tallied 2 goals and 1 assist
in Sunday's Divisional matchup against the Long Island Wolfpack.
Peter is spending his 2nd year with the Habs organization, and has
displayed a tremendous commitment and dedication since
his first appearance in the Fall of 2010.   His offensive explosion is
the result of continued hard work, and quietly leading by example.
So far on the season, Peter has attracted interest from Tufts
and Bowdoin College, as his academic excellence makes him an
outstanding candidate to be a 4-year contributor at the next level.
The Habs will be following up their strong 1st half of the season,
by spending the next 2 weeks off with their families at home and
celebrating the Holiday Season.   Many players will be
participating in Alumni games, high school practices, helping out
with clinics/ camps and hitting the gym so that they can build upon
their early success. Congratulations Peter.... and GO HABS!
